Using Custom Shifts

Written by Tusca Howes

Shifts in Droppah define your standard start and end times β€” but you don't need to create a new Shift every time someone's hours vary slightly. Any individual roster entry can be adjusted without touching the Shift template, so your defaults stay clean while your roster stays flexible.

Some businesses prefer not to used predefined Shifts altogether and build their rosters only using custom shifts.

Whether you're making a one-off tweak or building your entire roster, here's how to create and edit Custom Shifts.

Option 1: Add a Custom Shift

From the Resources View:

  1. Click on the day you want to add a shift to for the relevant employee.

  2. Select the Work Group you wish to roster them on for.

  3. Click Custom Shift

  4. Set the Start Time, End Time, and Break Duration.

  5. Click Save.

Note: You can also add a Custom Shift from the Roster View by clicking the + button on the relevant day and selecting Add Person. Follow the same steps to set the person, Work Group, and times.

Option 2: Edit Shift Times

From the Roster View:

  1. Click on the shift you want to edit.

  2. Click the pencil icon next to the rostered employee's name.

  3. Adjust the Start Time, End Time, and Break Duration as needed.

  4. Click Save.

Note: You can also edit times from the Resources View by clicking on an existing shift entry and updating the Start Time, End Time, or Break Duration directly in the popup.

This only affects this person's shift for this day. The underlying Shift template in Manage > Shifts is not changed.

Option 3: Edit Times in the Daily View

The Daily View gives you a visual way to adjust shift times by dragging directly on the roster.

  1. In the Roster or Resources View, click on the date to open the Daily View.

  2. Click and drag the start or end of any shift bar to shorten or extend it.

  3. Publish your roster to save the changes.

A few things to keep in mind

  1. None of these methods affect your Shift templates. Changes made here apply only to the individual shift for that day. Your default Shift times in Manage > Shifts remain unchanged.

  2. Always Publish after editing. Any changes made after a roster has been published will show a yellow indicator β€” make sure to re-publish so your staff see the updated roster.

  3. Custom Shifts aren't tied to a Shift template. They're standalone roster entries, which means they won't appear under a named Shift on the roster tab or the mobile app.
